Alia Malek’s book, “The Home That Was Our Country: A Memoir of Syria,” talks about going back to her home city, Damascus, and restoring her grandmother’s house while Syrians were restoring their country after the revolution in 2011. In our spotlight video Malek talks about how it felt to witness the crisis in Syria and what she wishes people would understand from her book.
