Basant festival at WCM-Q

The Basant Kite Festival is a seasonal kite festival celebrated in South Asian countries that traditionally marks the start of spring. Weill Cornell Medicine Qatar hosted the event in Education City on February 23 at the Green Spine, by inviting students and faculty to come out and enjoy events such as kiting, mug painting and soap football. This was the first event that WCM-Q hosted this year.

“I have been a part of the MSEC (Medical Student Executive Council) for three years now and organizing student events is my favorite part of the job. Basant, particularly is my favorite event because it has roots in South Asian culture and I grew up with this festival,” said Faryal Malick, a student at WCM-Q. “Basant has been a yearly tradition for quite a few years in Cornell. Initially we just offered kite flying and food to the attendees but it has been expanded over the years.”
