Thousands of international delegates, media personnel and members of non-governmental organizations at the UN Climate Change Conference were greeted by unexpectedly tight security at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) on Monday, the opening day of the conference.
The delegates say they were taken aback to see rumbling helicopters, security personnel with electronic probes and policemen with guns at every checkpoint. They were also displeased by a long walk from distant parking spots in a barren desert area nearly a mile away from QNCC’s parking.
It’s like a 15-minute walk to just get in here and there are other security procedures to get through,
