GU-Q welcomes NU-Q to the neighborhood

To welcome their new neighbors, Georgetown University in Qatar hosted a “Welcome to the Neighborhood” event for students, staff and faculty of Northwestern University in Qatar. The luncheon took place on Thursday, Feb. 16 at GU-Q’s main atrium and was attended by more than a 100 members from NU-Q, GU-Q, as well as University College London – Qatar, located on the third floor of the GU-Q building.

“We [NU-Q and GU-Q students] pass by each other and we don’t actually talk to each other. We see each other at lunch time but still don’t mingle, so I was like you know what, we should really welcome you guys as our neighbors to build relations and friendships,” said Israa Alkamali, a senior at GU-Q who came up with the idea of the event. “It’s really just to break any barriers between both communities.”

Members of NU-Q who attended the event said they were pleased by GU-Q’s hospitality.

“Today was a lovely event and reminded me of the potential for creative collaboration between NU-Q and GU-Q,” said Indee Thotawattage, student life specialist at NU-Q. “Being an alumna and former employee of GU-Q and now currently working at NU-Q, I feel blessed to be part of two amazing communities, even more so now that we are all right next to each other!
