As some 40 students camped out overnight in Georgetown University’s student lounge, The Daily Q wanted to know why the U.S. presidential elections are so important to the non-American students there. The fun of a university-sanctioned social event? A scholastic all-nighter? Foosball?
Or the actual 57th U.S. presidential election, a hard-fought, money-is-no-object fight over two opposite visions for America between U.S. president Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney?
The event is a first for the campuses of Education City so The Daily Q asked the crucial question of participants: why are you here?
Many students came to the screening because of their interest in U.S. politics, which they compare with their own countries.
Owais Khan, a 19-year-old freshman from Pakistan who plans to major in international economics at Georgetown University, was quite excited about the U.S. elections.
Khan is an economically mined Romney supporter and praised American politics. The American political system is one of the greatest systems I’ve ever seen.
