10-15 people is not an accurate number. I can count more people off the top of my head who want to have a PR minor, if we're offering a certificate (and we already have a lot of people interested in obtaining it) why not do the full stretch and make it into a minor? I understand the space issues, but the courses don't have to be offered all at once, i think it's manageable.

I think a lot of the criticism directed towards the Housing and Residence Life staff is undue. In my three years at Qatar Foundation, I have lived in five different apartments and I have never faced problems like those mentioned above.

First of all, the pest problem. Yes, there have been issues regarding pests but the Desk Staff is almost always very prompt in helping us solve these issues. When I first moved into the residence halls, I found some roaches in my apartment but upon reporting the issue to the desk staff, pest-control people were sent to my apartment immediately. I have never heard similar stories from any of my friends either. What must also be taken into account is the fact that the cleanliness of the apartment and its occupants also has an impact on the number of bugs. Not pointing any fingers, but people who do not clean their kitchens for prolonged periods of times cannot expect roses to grow in their cabinets :)

Secondly, as far as stealing goes, there have been incidents but the Community Living Standards provided to every student before they arrive in the residence halls clearly state that the students are responsible for their own belongings. I'm sure the HRL staff cannot be blamed if you leave your money/personal belongings lying around and your apartment unlocked at all times.

However, one thing that I do agree with is the attitude of some of the Community Development Advisors. I think the CDAs should realize that they are privileged to have probably the best paying on-campus job in Qatar Foundation and act accordingly. Contrary to what Omar Khan has stated, a CDA's job isn't only to help create a 'family like atmosphere' but also cater to the issues and needs of the residents. As an ex-CDA, I can say this with certainty that one of the roles of the CDA is to make sure that they periodically meet with each resident in their respective halls, something that includes asking them about any issues they must be facing. Although Omar Khurshid is right when he says that bigger problems need more time to be solved, CDAs can be more proactive in making sure these problems are solved as soon as possible. During the academic year when I was a CDA, one of the CDAs on our team used to repeatedly go to the desk clerks and maintenance people in order to ensure that the residents' issues were solved as soon as possible. It only takes a little effort to drop by and check on the status of a problem.

Lastly, I would like to reiterate that the RHDs and the desk staff have always been very helpful and have always tried their very best to get the problems solved as soon as possible. The problems are there but many of them can be avoided if students follow some basic rules.

Great article there, good coverage on both sides. I think while the meeting was "useless" in terms of what we talked about and getting to the bottom of things, it was very helpful in terms of expressing the student anger over NU-Q's status nowadays. That was the most important part. I foresee an improvement in the administration's attitude towards students. However, I still don't agree on the manner some students (and dean's *cough* professor schwock *cough* ) expressed themselves. could have been more civil and structured. The students have finally gained the upper hand.

There we no solutions. He didn't address any solutions.
It was an amateur meeting.
You didn't even talk about coach Eric?
That was the most important part of the useless meeting!
The administration doesn't just need to work more with student government, they need to work more with the STUDENTS.
We can't trust people who LIE to us.
